In September, my husband Dave and I were considering welcoming a puppy into our family. At the time, we had a nine month old Rhodesian Ridgeback, Charlie, who we had adopted from a breeder when he was surrendered due to extremely poor eyesight. My sister recommended adopting a rescue dog. We discovered ABTCR and were intrigued with the idea of providing a forever home to a hound in need. We were connected with a loving foster family who had an eleven month old Redbone Coonhound, Dallas.

Upon meeting Dallas, it was clear that he desperately wanted to give and receive love, but something in his past made him extremely fearful of new people. Seeing his amazing potential, without a second thought, we immediately adopted him.

It is now eight months later. Dallas has found such joy in accepting our love and he has brought such happiness to our family. Dallas and Charlie are best friends, like brothers. They are always side by side: chasing in the back yard, going for long walks, and snuggling up close for sleep. Dallas’s capacity for connecting with us, and Charlie, is beyond anything I could have imagined.
