It's been a long cold winter in Central NY and Oscar is loving Springtime. He's gained a healthy 14 lbs. in the year and half that he's been ours. Everyone always comments on how handsome he is. We just love him!

The day we brought Oscar home, the 25th of October, is quickly
approaching...and what a wonderful year it has been. Not to say that it has
always been easy because he did require many patient moments on our part, but we
never once second guessed our commitment to him. Cleaning slobber off the
ceiling has now become a part of our regular house cleaning routine, but that's
OK, we wouldn't want it any other way.
Thomas Jefferson once wrote, "The way you deal with your coonhound's slobber can
perhaps be the most telling way of how you handle your everyday problems, after
all he is your best friend."
Black and Tan Coonhounds and American Black and Tan Coonhound Rescue in
particular, has made life-long believers and followers out of us...and anyone
else who can stand listening to us.
Here are some pictures that were taken on our hike up Bald Mountain in the
Adirondacks on Labor Day weekend, a front yard bath last weekend, Oscar asleep
under the covers in our bed in the morning and some pictures of him just hanging
around the house.
Until our next update...

Here are some pictures of Oscar that were taken over the 4th of July weekend up
in Saranac Lake in the Adirondacks. As usual, a great time was had by all and
everyone wanted to "touch those ears!" All that fresh air made Oscar really
tired though and he was forced to nap wherever he could get it, even if it was
on a lakeside mossy rock with his life jacket on.
Oscar has had a very busy Summer so far. We enrolled him in obedience classes
and he will soon graduate. We have also learned a few things: Oscar loves
berries, especially raspberries and wild strawberries, and he enjoys eating them
fresh off the vine. We have yet to go camping with him and sleep in a tent but
we're sure he will love it. We have also made great strides in the area of
riding in the car. Oscar used to get car sick on longer rides but that seems to
be a thing of the past now. He still drools considerably all over the side of
the car but he is now comfortable enough to lie down and sleep.
The Beagle in the picture is Oscar's cousin Pre.
We hope everyone is having a great Summer!!!

Oscar is doing great! We have had him on one canoe outing so far. Unfortunately, we don't have any photos from that day because we were't sure how he would behave and we didn't want the camera ending up in the lake.
You'll be happy to know that he makes a wonderful ambassador to Coonhound Rescue. We take Oscar on as many outings as possible, trying to socialize him, as well as get him more accustomed to riding in the car. Our local home improvement centers are the best. He always draws a crowd and he is always so incredibly friendly with people.
We couldn't imagine life without him and we're looking forward to the first of many great summers with him.
Keep up the good work.

Just a few more pictures of our beautiful Oscar Madison. We just can't seem to help ourselves because he's just so darn photogenic. It would be a shame to keep them to ourselves and not share them, especially with our fellow "cooniephiles."
We are eagerly awaiting Spring and Summer and hope that he takes well to the water for canoeing and camping trips. Hopefully these trips will provide us with many more photos of the adventures of Oscar Madison and his new family.
We hope to see many more Happy Endings from all the adoptions over the last couple of months. We faithfully check them every day and always want to see how the dogs have come along.
Until our next update....

These are some pictures of Oscar that we sent to our friends as Christmas cards.....don't worry the light bulb isn't really attached to his head, just the magic of photoshop.
Wishing everyone associated with American Black and Tan Coonhound Rescue a Wonderful Holiday Season filled with many successful adoptions....and many happy and healthy dogs.

Hunter is now-Oscar "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter" Madison. Words cannot express how much we've fallen completely in love with this little boy. He's already come a long way since we brought him home and has settled in nicely to his new life here, both as a loving member of our family and photographic muse. He loves his morning and evening walks with my husband and getting to know the neighbors, human and canine alike. He really draws attention seeing that you don't see many Coonhounds in upstate NY. He seems to enjoy the snow quite a bit, we're not sure if he's ever seen it before or not since his history is a bit of a mystery. He also loves to visit his grandparents and play with his "cousin" Pete, a Golden Lab. Not a day goes by that he doesn't amaze us in some way, he's very intelligent and not easily fooled. We can easily spend an entire evening just watching him sleep in front of the fireplace. He has truly helped to fill a void in our family, and hearts as well, since the loss of our Dalmatian, Sidney, this past July. We think that Sidney would approve.
Many thank-yous to the American Black and Tan Coonhound Rescue and his foster parents who, without them, we would never have been able to own such a beautiful dog.
