I was adopted in 2021 and taken to North Carolina by my new mama whose daughter named me Lucille. She often calls me Miss Lucy. When I first arrived in North Carolina my mama had a sprained ankle so she was a slow learner with the training. I refused to get out of her truck when we arrived at our new home because it was a little scary with so many big trees and the long dirt road leading to her house. She drug me out of the truck and the rest is history. She took me for walks, limping along like an old dog with only three legs but I worked on training her, even in her bad condition. She had to learn that gunshots were scary and if I heard any I was running home to a safe place. With her injury, she put a lot of faith in me, but just to be sure she gave me a collar with my name and phone number on it. If I heard a gunshot or even just a clap of thunder, I would run home and wait for her. She certainly was not very trusting at first and tried hard to keep up. She finally got the hang of it and now she knows to just unleash me and I will meet her at the door whenever she gets there. I have introduced her to all of the neighbors' dogs and they enjoy walking with us when we see them. They all enjoy walking with me but they don't enjoy walking with each other. I'm a pretty chill dog and I don't bark back if they yap at me. Since they have gotten to know me they don't even yap anymore. My new dad isn't into walking much but he had a nice big run put in the yard for me and he will walk me down and let me run while he works in the yard. He is also good about giving me baths when the weather gets cooler. They have taken me to the lake and the beach and we always get long walks. I prefer my privacy when I need to go to the bathroom so my mama will let me run in the woods when we are at home. When we travel she just keeps on walking until I finally get down to business. Sometimes it takes quite a few miles of walking but I usually can perform nicely with a little patience. I can't sleep with my mama because of her allergies but she has a nice cozy bed for me to sleep on at night with a couple of blankets on top. Mama is also allergic to the cat but she doesn't tell her no. Maybe that's because the cat doesn't have a nice, cushy bed like I do. I love my new home, the long walks, the runs around the yard, and the family gatherings. I now have a wonderful family. Many thanks to Coonhound Rescue for saving my mama and dad with the perfect coonhound.
