Miss Daisy Mae is probably close to 8 years old now but shows little signs of age, she runs and plays like a puppy. We travel quite a bit together and she enjoys outings to any place that will allow a dog on premises. Daisy especially likes "Mumm Napa" champagne cellars and Home Depot where they even gave her a Home Depot apron with her name on it.

Here is an update on Daisy who is about 6 years old now. She is living in Napa with us and we enjoy going to some of the many wineries here in the valley. Many are very dog friendly so Miss Daisy Mae gets to come along if we are headed to see one of her friends. The tasting room attendants often keep treats behind the bar and Daisy KNOWS just who does. Such was the case a few weeks ago at Cuvaison. This photo was taken after the treats ran out and Daisy was expecting more.
Daisy has settled into life here in Northern California, but since it rains much more here than San Diego she is somewhat disappointed with the rain as she is not a foul weather girl.

We have had Miss Daisy Mae 3 years now and she has really mellowed out (as much as a Coonhound can) into a very nice dog. She travels with us in our RV and loves going for the rides, long or short. She gets a lot of attention wherever we go and at a recent check up at the vet, the doc said she has the prettiest coat he had ever seen. That to me was real compliment coming from a long time vet.
Several months ago, Liz Palika ( http://www.lizpalika.com ) who runs Kindred Spirits Canine Education Center ( http://www.kindredspiritsk9.com/ ) where Daisy underwent training along with me, called and asked if Miss Daisy would be available for a photo shoot for Liz’s new book “Howell Book of Dogs” . Daisy accepted the offer and now appears in this beautiful hardback book on pages 160 and 161. I have attached a few photos of these pages for you. Anyway, Miss Daisy Mae is now quite the centerfold girl and in the Library of Congress thanks to Liz Palika’s book.
We all thought ABTCC Rescue should know about this book and that a rescue dog could be so published, you do remember she also appeared in the Dutch magazine Woef a few years ago as well.

Daisy is one sweet dog, she makes friends wherever she goes, she and Gabriel have quite a bit of fun together, Gabriel thinks it’s cool to tease Daisy with food that has dropped to the bottom of the cage, sometimes he actually gives food to Daisy, one picture here shows that. I suppose you could make the argument that Daisy steals the food but Gabriel makes it readily available Last week at the dog park a woman, when asking if she was a Coonhound, quickly added that her nephew had pet sat one for a couple of months and when the owners returned he really didn’t want to give him back. He remarked that the Coonhounds had more personality than any other dog he had ever seen. I agree. Daisy is a very busy dog, she enters each room with gusto and you can tell she is looking for a love but leaves no doubt she is busy and things need to be quick as she has other adventures to attend to. Now.

Here are a couple of photos that you may be interested in. Our Macaw, Gabriel, was exploring the other night and went into Daisy’s crate, Daisy got worried about her territory and entered and promptly laid down. Gabriel and Daisy are good friends but they don’t usually sleep together. They probably stayed 10 mins or so. Daisy likes Gabriel and the feeling is mutual. If we are holding Gabriel and Daisy is close by, Gabriel will give whoever is holding him a bite so he can get down and be with Daisy. He gets all puffed up and looks like he is in love, if you come near him when he is wanting Daisy… LOOK OUT, he is jealous.
The other is Daisy with Santa. You will also be pleased to learn that Daisy graduated from basic obedience last Wednesday and received a tie for 1st place and was given a brand new bandana. She looks great wearing it.

We live in Southern California and received Miss Daisy Mae in the middle May 2005. She is the fastest kid at the dog park, except when those pesky Italian Greyhounds show up and they scoot past her. I don’t think they could keep that up for hours like Daisy can, but for a sprint they can’t be beat. We do have a very nice off-leash dog park here in the area, about 10 acres with a pond and water falls, fountains, and lots of lawn. Daisy loves it there and gets to go and visit her friends 4-5 times a week. It is private property but many come and everybody treats it with respect and cleans up after their pet.
Miss Daisy Mae has adapted very well to our home. She is in obedience training and doing very well; she responds well to sit, stay, lay down, and come, doing all of them on the 1st command. As I write this note she is taking a power nap. She can go from full throttle to a power nap in 2.3 seconds. She also has adapted well to the Southern California life-style: she enjoys the beach, bicycle rides, and being the best looking girl wherever we go. When I take her out in public she receives a lot of attention from almost everybody. Most folks here do not know about Coonhounds and so very many had never heard of them. After a few minutes with this lovely girl some ask me about where we got her and where they may get one. I always tell them about ABTC Rescue. I hope that some have contacted you.
