It is with sadness that I have to report that my dog Rose (formerly "Laura Ingalls") passed on 5/9/2011 from cancer.
She was a funny, quirky dog. I have never seen a dog with such a phobia of thunder and fireworks. Of course, I don't know this for sure, but I imagine that she that she was probably too "gun shy" to be much good to a coonhunter. Somehow, she ended up in the Fort Worth, Texas pound. From there, she went to a Black and Tan Coonhound Rescue foster home, and then she came to me in California (on an airplane!).
Rose became best buddies with my older dog, Norton. We had many long walks and trips to the dog park together. She learned to play fetch from Norton. She would signal me to throw the ball again by singing the "blues" (baying). Rose and Norton stuck by my side like glue when I broke my knee in January (I'm completely recovered now).
Unfortunately, only a couple of months later she developed a mast cell tumor. She did well for a time after surgery, but the tumor quickly returned and grew. She was way too young. Norton and I miss her a lot.
