Sadly, I am writing to tell you that my sweet dog Norton passed away on June 20, 2017.
He was a big part of my life for a very long time. He was adopted from Black and Tan Coonhound Rescue back in December of 2000. He was thought to be perhaps 10 month old then, which means that he was nearly 17½ years old when he died.
In his younger days, he was a great jogging companion, champion ball fetcher and crooner of songs.
Norton loved obedience class because it meant many treats. Agility classes at the city park didn't work out, because there were too many squirrels to be chased.
He was a big fan of dog parks. He knew how to play gently with small dogs without scaring them.
He taught Rose and then Gracie, the coonhounds who came later, everything that dogs should know.
When he was older, he napped most of the day as old dogs do, but he was never a grumpy old man. He wanted his walks with Gracie almost to the very end -- 3 miles every day, rain or shine. He had many, many friends along his regular route.
It has been a couple of months since he has been gone, but this has still been hard to write.
We miss you, Nort. I am so thankful for the time that we had.
Karen and Gracie
