We rescued this dog as a stray in November of 1997. No one was looking for him. We quickly decided he was special and we did not try to adopt him out. We named him Elvis and quickly fell under his spell. He was sweet, affectionate, funny, smart, loyal, protective, and boy did he love to chase the squirrels on our fenced, wooded acreage. He stayed a very busy boy the first few years, but did not want to go with me in the car. As he slowed down and developed a few health problems, he decided he liked going with me and the car was not a bad thing. Our relationship deepened over the last four years of his life until it seemed Elvis and I knew each other's thoughts. He was diagnosed with bladder cancer in June of 2005. We had surgery, tried new innovative drugs. He fought the good fight and I know without a doubt that sometimes he fought more for us that he did for himself. We gave him back to his Creator on December 4, 2006. We miss him still every day. Thanks to ABTCR we have been blessed with fosters and a new hound. I like to think his spirit watches over them and us.
