Long Haul

Long Haul is quite the gentleman hound! Although he was picked up as a stray, it was obvious from the beginning that he was once someone’s cherished pet. This 7 year old Plott Hound arrived with nice manners, was housetrained and knew how to use the doggy door. He also knows “sit” and “lay down” and sits for treats without being asked. He will also sit for his meals but needs to be reminded every once in a while when he gets too excited. Because meals are really the best part of the day, that’s when he’ll use his voice! However, other than when he’s requesting something from you, he is not a barker. He makes a great neighbor because he respects his fences, he’s quiet outside, and doesn’t appear to have any prey drive, paying no attention to cats, wild turkeys, squirrels, etc.
He’s also never met a human he doesn’t love, be it man, woman or child and he gets along great with other dogs (although he prefers a playmate that is not a puppy). He’s a gentle giant at 80 lbs and while tall enough to look a child in the face, he doesn’t jump or push. He will even sit down and set his paw gently on a knee to ask for pets and sit patiently while being hugged.
Long Haul doesn’t mind being left home alone during the day. He isn’t destructive and doesn’t need to be crated. He loves his evening walks and/or runs and will ask for them incessantly until the leash comes out. He’s so well-trained that taking him out is a dream come true; there’s no pulling on the leash or chasing other animals. He’s just happy to be out and about, stretching those long legs of his.
