Maple

Maple is a beautiful coonhound female, estimated to be between 1–2 years old, weighing about 48 pounds. Her exact genetics are unknown, but she looks like she could be a combination of a Black and Tan Coonhound and Treeing Walker Coonhound. She’s a petite package for a hound, but she has plenty of energy packed into those 48 pounds!

Maple came to her Williamsburg foster home from Bath County, Virginia, an incredibly rural area in the Virginia Highlands. The local shelter reached out to rescue for help giving this girl a better chance at finding her forever home. Her name is a nod to the maple trees found throughout the region—and neighboring Highland County is home to the southernmost commercial maple syrup-producing industry in the United States.

Maple is incredibly friendly, affectionate, curious, and adventurous. She has loved everyone she’s met and happily seeks out affection from her humans. At an estimated 1–2 years old, this girl still has plenty of puppy left and is always ready to see what’s going on around her.

She loves to run, play, and carry around her toys and has really enjoyed the other dogs in her foster home. In fact, she’s been running circles around the two 8-month-old hound puppies she’s currently living with! She would be a great fit for someone looking for an active dog who wants to get out and do things.

For all that energy, Maple has some great foundations. She is crate trained, is doing very well with house training, and naturally walks nicely on a leash with minimal pulling. She has not been tested with cats.

Maple is a fun, social and affectionate young dog with lots of energy and enthusiasm for whatever comes next. She’ll do best with a family who can give her plenty of opportunities to run, play, explore, and be part of the action.
