Perry is a Redtick Coonhound (formally an American English Coonhound) estimated to be around 8 months old, weighing about 40 pounds. He’s on the more easygoing side for a young hound, but he is still very much an active, playful puppy.

Perry found himself in the shelter with his four siblings, who were reportedly strays. Fortunately, thanks to an incredible volunteer effort, all five siblings made it out of the shelter and into rescue.

Compared to his brother Orvis, who is being fostered with him in Virginia, Perry is the more cautious. He’s intelligent and observantand tends to take in a new situation before jumping in. He is also very sweet and seeks out attention and affection from all people he meets.

Perry spent about a month in the shelter, and his foster home is likely his first experience living inside a house. As a result, he’s behind on some of the manners you might expect for a puppy his age. He’s still learning the basics and will do best with an adopter willing to teach him. A basic obedience class would be great fit for him. He is crate trained, sleeps peacefully through the night, and is making good progress with house training.

He has really enjoyed playing with the other dogs in his foster home. He also has a high prey drive and loves chasing balls and toys.

Perry is still young and very impressionable. With consistency, training, new experiences, he is full of potential — and he’s at a great age to learn.
